Hey, I was hoping someone could help me with a little problem I'm having. I bought a '73 CJ5, well sort of, Its only the tub and the chasis. I'm hoping to rebuild it from that and put it on the road. There is a '90 Cherokee that sits side the road near my house in pretty bad condition. I was wondering how many parts I could take off the Cherokee and put on my CJ? Thanks for any help.

The quick answer is not many will bolt up. If you want to restore the Jeep to original condition keep looking. If you just want a CJ5 on the outside and can fabricate a bit, feel free to make the parts from the Cherokee work.

Kinda same answer here. You can make all kinda stuff from it work, but it will take some fabwork/adapters to do it. If it has a 4.0 in it, it might be worth looking into doing the stroker engine with it, depending on what engine you have in your CJ. At least that is one of the projects on my list of future things to do since I have a 4.0 and a 258 laying around collecting dust.

Axles are too wide (unless you don't mind tires hanging like 3" outside the fenders). Also, the differentials are in the wrong place.

Powertrain is more than likely too long with an auto tranny.

There are better candidates for donor parts, like another CJ.

If you mean restore, that is, put back to original, nothing is the same. You need a donor of the same approximate year and model, ie a 72-75 CJ-5 or CJ-6. Some models and years have some of the parts, ie a 72-73 Commando, or a 76-79 CJ, but there isn't that much overlap with those models, even in the major components. Almost nothing is the same on an earlier CJ, except the tub, which you already have, and even that is different in some details.
