Looking at a 1947 CJ2A. It needs some engine work and a front drive shaft. The tub is in good shape (for the year) and is cracked on the passanger's side. I'm told the frame is solid and the body mounts are solid. I'm also told that it was converted to a 12 volt system and all the electrical components work except for one broken light. I don't think the current owner has aver had it running.

I'm just wondering what your thoughts are of this vehicle? What price range would be fair value? And can someone ID that engine?

Pics of the Jeep I'm looking at:

I would not know how to price it, as for me I would not give more than $500. The front end looks tweaked, looks twisted and something is wrong with wheels not lining up. Engine looks like a 225 V6, its hard to tell but the windsheild frame looks bent, maybe an elusion in the picture. It would take some work and money to get it up and running, youre decision if you are up to a project.

Pretty much x2 on all of this. I would probably say around $500 at the most. I might venture up to around $800 for it if I saw it in person because it doesn't really look too bad, but some of the pics make it look like some things just aint right with it.

Not taking away from the extremely helpful and knowledgeable people here but you could wander over to the The CJ2A Page Just be ready for questions for such things as that frame. I would walk away from some of the stuff the guys on that site rebuild. I noticed the w/s is bent also, looks like from towing with it up and too fast.

It looks like how much work are you prepared to do and how much are you a Jeep Nut ;)

The more I look at the pictures, the more things I see wrong with it. It looks like the body is in better shape than some of the others I've looked at buying, but it looks like it has a lot of other issues as well.

Front spring on passenger side looks tweaked, not necessarily the frame. The grill looks like it is higher on one side and not the other, there's a height difference. Windshield frame could be bent back. Dauntless V6, distributor missing. Okay, okay, I'm optimistic.

I would be willing to bet the frame is bent..takes a bunch of twist to do that to a body x3 on everything below..It also depends if you are going back to original..Looks like a 6 to 9 month project to go there...offer that person 350.00 ..worse thing he says i got to have 500.00 for it..then buy it...YOU are the invester....Do you have any vin numbers...look on the passenger side front frame horn ..should be a tag .if not also should be on passenger cowl..TWO tags one for serial ## the second for the body tub ## ..

just remember, you will always have at least twice the trouble you expect... if you have lots of time and patience, go ahead an buy it, but if you want to find something you can drive while you fix it up, i'd say save up a couple grand and find a runner.

Maybe it's an engine swap that was never finished, and the owner just threw all the front end parts back on to sell it? And that windshield does look kinda "laid back". A lot so.

I think the crack in the body is telling you something. looks like about a 50/50 mix of rotten metal and bondo. My cousin had what apeared to be a fairly nice cj5 tub media blasted about a year ago. didn't come home with much, he's still hammering and welding.
