hey everyone! I am building a really nice CJ-3A and i have hit one little problem that is keeping me from hitting the road and the trails! I was trying to adjust my clutch cable and it suddenly popped out of the trans... i wasnt able to get it hooked back up again so i unbolted the tranny hump and then the top inspection cover on the T-90, and yes you guessed it, the clutch fork came off and dropped. ok so i was able to reach down and get it (thank god), but i dont know a whole lot about transmission internals so im not sure how to reinstall it... Can someone tell me exactly where this slides in (and how to line it up) so that i can install it without going crazy? :)

If its like mine it is held toghther by two springs that go from the fork to the bellhousing pain in the a*&*) to reinstall without taking the bellhousing ,tranny and transfer back apart...Thats what I had to do if anybody else has a better idea let us both know...

do you mean the fork is held in by springs?... from what i have read, the fork is held in by the pressure on from the cable pulling it against the other end.... i just dont know where to slide the fork in... theres a round spring loaded object (sorry for my ignorance, is that the throwout bearing?) with some rectangular tabs on the edge... the fork ends look like they should go either ahead of or behind those tabs... im just not sure which it is or how to do it and i dont want to bugger up my transmission... have you had to do it before?

Fork is in front of the tabs the springs hook to the back of the clutch fork and then to the rear of the bellhousing the other end of the fork of course goes to the ball on the cable..I have done it numerous times I never could do it through the inspenction plate on top of the bellhousing..too small for my girlfriends hands or mine...I just took a complete assembly apart in my 52 M38A1 havent put it back in yet..clutch cable broke then the main shaft let loose in the transfer case...two steps ahead ,,,three steps back...

I dropped mine while installing the tranny. Used a magnet and my sons small hands to retrieve it from the inspection cover. Had him try to slide it back in place but it was to hard for him. It will go back in without separating the tranny but it takes alot of trying different angles. Sorry I can't remember the magic spot but it finally just fell into place. Don't forget the spring on the collar once you get it.

thanks for the help guys... quick question about the spring... the only spring that i know of in that area is the one that is attached to that round metal thing with the tabs. it is still in place so i assume there are no other springs to worry about?
ok so if i understand, i pull the spring loaded cylinder thing back a bit and get the fork in ahead of those tabs right?

ouch my hands. i dont believe it but i think i got it back into place. there was an easier way to line it up.. theres some kind of push rod with a rounded tip behond the fork that lines up with an indent in the fork itself. i got those two lined up and it seems to be sitting right now. Guys, just to be 100% clear before i hook the cable up... the tabs on that round thing i was talking about are ahead of (ie closer to the front of the jeep) the fork ends. is this where they need to stay or am i supposed to pull them back and get the fork in front of them?

the fork goes behind the tabs on the carrier, and moves the carrier forward towards the clutch; the ball pivot then seats in the indent on the fork, which you may have already figured out

the spring on the carrier pulls back and holds the fork on the ball
