I seem to be having a problem with the carb loading up when climbing. Unless I stay in the throttle, the engine just bogs down and stalls. I don't think the problem is the jets (the trails are 8000+ and I'm running .048 main jets). I've been told to lower the float but how much should it be lowered?

Joe - drop it 1/8 to 1/16 at a shot and try it. I just go by feel so can not be exact. I will try to get out and check the jets in my old 2G I used to run. It did well from 7K to 12.5K after bumping the float down.

The nice thing on the 2G is I would adjust it on the trail.... Real easy to get to the float.

Part of the problem is gearing. When I had my t14 and stock gears I would bog down on trails as well and I was only running 31" tires at the time. I see you have 33s. Once the sm420 and 4.10 gears went in the problem went away for the most part. A Cagle fuel regulator helps a lot too.

If you don't want a tranny swap seriously consider getting a better gear ratio for crawling via axles and tcase (terra low).

Lowering the float should make a big difference. another thing I did that helped out was an adjustable ($30 cheapo) fuel preasure regulator. I turn it down to about 2 psi when I am in the mountains. I know it doesn't sound possible, but the lower preasure on the seat (not pushing down on the float and letting more fuel in) lowers fuel level and leans it out enough to compensate for the elevation. In the valley, with the lowered float level, it runs boarderline lean with full preasure (7 or 8 psi) and as you turn the preasure down with engine at idle, the idle speed drops. 1/2 pound of preasure makes a noticeable difference. In the mountains there is no audible change in idle speed when you turn the preasure down, But I know it is leaning it out some. This setup I am running now has never acted up on the trail at all.
