I'm going to lift the CJ soon and want to see what everyone thinks of a spring over axle lift. Where would I get the parts I need, how would I do the axle angle, any steering modifications, etc???? Thanks for the help!

Shackle reversal and yj springs. That's what mine will be getting this winter.

it all depends on your experiance, understanding of suspension geometery, steering angles, fab skills/tools, intent of usage, and wallet.

    your grand plan?

I would stick to the suspension lift and pass on the spring over. On a short little jeep they for one end up way too tall. Axle wrap is a huge problem. Steering is expencive. They say you can use softer spring with spring over and get more lift. But with softer spring the axle wrap is worse.

I opted for the 4 1/2 inch lift wrangler kit from BDS. I used stock CJ7 spring mounts and left my shackles where they were at. My understanding is the on road maners of the standard shackle arangement is better. I do agree shackle reversal is better off road.

I am going to box the frame around the center spring mounts as that seems to be a bit of a weak spot on my frame. I plan to leave the frame as stock as possible for flex and light weight. I figure the biggest plus off road to a CJ5 is its small size and ability to get thru tight spots because of it. So rather than try to build it into something it isn't enhance what it is. I am really close to compleation, can't wait to try it out! This is the closest picture I could find that shows the stance. I may have some others, will post em if I find em.

Check out the latest JP. It has an article about them removing a soa because technology has brought about better options. (I know, I bought a JP! The old iron articles were so tempting they overroad my total revulsion of Bree stupidity.)

I wouldn't go SOA - too much trouble for too little return. I've got a 4" Skyjacker lift - easier and works great. Only thing you'll need that isn't included are extended brake lines and perhaps a little finessing with the driveline angle. My only complaint is the springs are maybe a little too soft. Having clearance problems with 33 Swampers. In fairness I think the jeep has had a few tree encounters that have changed the shape of the back end, and a sawzall is in order this weekend.
Hey 2PWR at Ft Lewis - hope to meet up with you on the trail someday and take a look. Setup looks sweet!

sweet. I think I'm going to go with the easy route, 4" out of the box. I'll build an ultimate jeep when I have more time and money, and when I get a garage
