Well I'm feeling sparky today, so I'm gonna dive into a clutch and rear main. Heck I might even bolt the drivers seat down and install the brain box and bleed the water pump. Maybe.

I've changed clutches on a ranger  and a scottsdale before. The chevy was easy. Is there anything special that might save time on a cj?

The biggest problem I seem to have is trying to wrestle the transmission/xfer case back together with the engine. If you don't drain them, get a GOOD xmission jack. I find, that one that tilts helps a lot.

Well I really wanted to take the body off, not just to change the clutch/seal but to do some frame work and clean everything real good. Would it be a lot easier to do with the body off?

If you plan on taking the tub off anyway, it'd be a lot easier. I wouldn't take it off just to change the clutch, though. Sounds more like a major overhaul.

I agree, if you are going to take the tub off anyway, you might as well do it before you change the clutch. This is how it all gets started!!!

When you go back with it, you will decide to get new bushings, and rewire the whole thing. However, there will be a ton of the "while I am already this far, might as well" ideas that come up.:) :)

I'm still trying to figure out what Sparky has to do with this thread though.:) :)

Well that's not hard to figure out. My plugs have gotta be gapped just right to wanna drop a transmission. :)

I'm in denial right now. I'm still trying to tell myself that I'll come out cheaper building it myself than having bought a good jeep.

Maybe not cheaper, but you will get more enjoyment out of it knowing that you built it yourself. Remember, real Jeeps are built not bought, or something like that, so they say. Best way to lift a tub off is to buy a case or so of  and have a few buddies come over to help you. :)

The lifting issue has been solved. My dad just told me they delivered his new tractor today.
