With a broken rocker i didnt hear anything. the factory rockers at one time were cast aluminum and they shattered. I had little pieces of it i had to fish out of the top of the head.

well I got a rear main seal, and a clutch. The lights work all work, but the brakes light up the wrong lights and the blinkers don't blink, so I need to work on the wiring harness. On top of this, I actually ran it during the day yesterday, and it's blue smoke not black. So I guess I'm just gonna go ahead and pull the body off. The drivetrain needs a really good cleaning. And I wanted to work on the frame a little, so I guess I'll start there.

Well I fixed the power steering this afternoon, and drove it to my grandmother's to it's new home in the old garage I've been cleaning up. On the way, it started losing power again. I replaced the brain box this afternoon too. Anyway, it developed a very noticable knock. It was consistent about once every second or so. Maybe it's just one rod. Anyway, considering the shape it's in, with oil on the plugs and a knock and a leaking rear main (even though that can be easily fixed) do yall now think it's time for a rebuild? If so, I'm open to suggestions. If I'm gonna spend money on it, I want to build a good engine. I don't want a hotrod, but a good solid motor with a little to spare. I've said it before, I don't know much, so yall fill me in on options.

anybody know if a 350 will bolt up to my stock transmission? Talked to a friend to tonight that said he had a 350 bored 40 over he might be willing to let go of. He built it for a Toyota but never finished the project.

Either another AMC V8 (304, 360, 401) or a Ford small block. IIRC the Ford small block will go in pretty easily, with the change of one motor mount (Sparky?). The transmission is a Ford pattern, so the Ford bell will bolt up without an adapter. Any swap other than another AMC V8 will require some added effort and expense.

Rebuilding any engine will cost $1000-2000 to do it right, including parts and machining. If your engine isn't usable, I'd suggest you look around for a good used engine - that will be the least expensive route.

Does a built 350 bored 40 overwith new pistons, cam, cambearings, rod bearings, rings, and a holley 4 barrell for 1k sound like a good deal? The crankshaft has about 500 miles on it, and the rest of the stuff is still in the boxes. He said if I'd help him put it back together he'd sell it to me for that. I don't know what it's worth, so I'm asking yall.
