I have been reading your posts on the transplant steering columns, lots of ideas, Flaming River Products, Camaro, etc. Anybody care to share their favorite idea of the best to put on a 74 CJ5 using the original pedals? Right now I have a transplant 79 column with power steering in the Jeep I bought with a set of pedals engineered with bubble gum and bailing wire. Well not exactly but close.
    Thank You! :flag:

I used the late model (late model hehe, post 76 style) pedals and a GM tilt column of about the same vintage. Came out very well. I Wired in a fuse box, the turn signals, brake switch and the ignition at the same time. Very nice package.

    Whats wrong with the original?

I know a lot of folks go for the gm tilt column, but why? I've had to fix way too many of those things to ever want one on my jeep. The original jeep column is simple and functional. Just stick a smaller steering wheel on it.R)

In the pic my wheel is tilted up. With the higher sides on the seats the tilt is a requirement to get in and out of the darn thing especially for my kid who has thighs like tree stumps.

Would anyone care to share some measurements with me. I am tweeking my steering and brake clutch assembly. I have a glass tub and would like the measurements from the floor to center of the cloumn where the steering wheel bolts on and the distance from the dash to the same point. Make sense? :flag: Thanks

Rather than try to fit someone else's dimensions your probably better off getting a seat in it and making it fit you. I can't measure from the floor to the center like you want, the seat is in the way. I can get get the other measurement from my stock 77/79

EDIT: mine sticks out 10 1/2 inches or so from the dash following along the top of the column to the end of the shaft.

I picked up an inexpensive steering wheel puller at NAPA. Came with everything needed to pull my steering wheel, good luck.
