What kind of lift?

Hi everyone. Just curious what kind of 2.5in lifts are the best? Superlift? Black Diamond? Skyjacker? Etc? Thinking about getting one and I am looking for the best one. Your help is appreciated.

 

I don't know which one is best but I can tell you I haven't been very happy with my ProComp. I think Tough Country is making a Soft Ride for CJ's now so that might be worth looking in to.

 

I bought one from BDS Suspension on the recommendation of many from around the forums. The warranty cannot be beat. I also bought their steering stabilizer.


BDS will replace any spring for any reason if you are the original purchaser.

Let me rephrase. What do you like or dislike about the lift you have or have had experience with? Also was it on the expensive side (as far as lifts go) or less expensive.

I am looking for a good performer with a nice highway ride and the max I am willing to go is 2.5in.

I just installed a 4wd.com lift this spring and couldn't be happier. The rid is much improved over stock. I run 33's and they look good under there. I might do an add a leaf in front to level things out more. Other than that, very happy with the completness of the kit.

I have a couple of BDS lifts on my jeeps. The 2.5 lift on the black jeep, 77/79 cj5, rides just a tad stiffer than stock. I have the 4.5 inch wrangler springs on green jeep, 74 cj5, it seems much softer than the cj lift. So..... if you want soft ride I would recomend the yj springs, if you want a good cheap lift with a great warranty that doesn't ride quite as good the cj lift is great.

I had rough country 3" lift on the green one before. Due to the osteoperosis and the 9 compression fractures in my back I couldn't even drive it. It rode so rough it would jar your fillings loose. This picture is with the rough country. It was lifting that back tire off the ground. I bet it only had about 3" of total suspension travel.

That was how the tie rod was when I bought it from the PO. I know the PO didn't do it, but it could have been a PO before the PO, ya get what I'm saying?

Steering is extremely light and if I keep 31-33 inch tires, I don't forsee a need for power steering anytime soon.

Back to the topic though...

The BDS shocks that I bought along with my leaf springs ran me $610 from Bob Supplee. I bought my steering stabilizer and shock boots straight from BDS' website for just under 100 dollars IIRC.

I am really happy with my purchase, as the quality of the suspension is top-notch. The BDS shocks ride kinda stiff. If I were to try it again, I might go with some Skyjacker Hydros. I had those on before, and they softened the ride quite a bit.

While the price of the BDS setup is a little higher than the other 2.5" kits, I feel its justified with the warranty they offer, especially if you will ride trails pretty hard. Once I complete my fix-rust project, I know I will be out on the trails. The military wrap on the BDS springs is also a big plus.
