Hello all, I have a 1953 M38A1 that I'm working on and ran across a problem. I'm installing a Warn Overdrive and it appears the OD housing sits right where the E-brake rod comes down through the floor from the handle mounted between the seats.

Does anyone have an easy fix for re-rerouting the Emergency brake rod or will I have to get creative with fabrication? Does anyone make a kit for this?

    Thanks!

If you arent to perticular why dont you go to a 1/8 in. cable system...Or change it over to a CJ5 brake system like ******* suggested...

I'll have to research the conversion but looking underneath my '53 M38A1 and a friend's '55 cj-5, it looks like the whole E-brake assembly is different on the two. Lever, drum and brake shoes appear different. It looks like it might get expensive to switch E-brake systems. If anyone knows for sure, I'd love your input as well. Thanks!

The M38A1 uses a clamping style with pads on the inside and out side of the drum. CJ5 uses a drum brake style. Difficut to convert and find all the pieces and you have to find a CJ5 tranfercase output houseing.

The rod on the M38A1 pulls straight up on the lever to apply the brake.
You may be able to drill a new hole in the arm or make a rod with acouple of bends in it.
