Anyone know of a writeup on how to rebuild an oil preassure gauge from a 74? I think they only used this particular model from 72-74. 75+ looks different. I tested it last night and it is dead (just pegs at 80psi). The sending unit works fine (tested that as well). Or does anyone have one for sale??

Maybe you could take the works and needle from a new one and use the dial, case and bezel from the old one? Either that or replace it with a spiffy 270 degree sweep S-W mechanical type.

Ok say I took the guts out of a newer one and put them into my gauge like you said. Do I need to replace the sending unit? I know they list a different one for 75+ but what is the difference?

Yeah, the sender goes with the works. Might be just a minor difference, but it's so easy to change you may as well use the right sender.

The FSM should list the characteristics of the sending unit; you need them for testing. I know they list the resistances for the temperature sending unit, and I thought they listed something similar for the oil pressure sending unit. You could compare the listed values between the '74 FSM and a later FSM.

Yeah I used the resistance measurements from the FSM to test the old gauge. I guess I could do that. I think I will hunt for a used gauge for a little while. If I don't find one I will buy a new SW. I should be able to find something similar to what I've got.
