Does anyone run synthetic oil in everything? On older motors and differentials and cases is it bad to start using it?

I do not. Strictly because I can't see paying that much extra for oil. I feel if the engine is maintained and has been throughout its life it will run for a long time without expensive oil. Besides synthetic oil is not going to fix any existing problems so why bother?? I try to run Penzoil oil but if it leaks alot I will just replace it with the cheapest on the shelf. The way I see it is it all comes from the ground...Non-Synthetics anyway. Of course this is MHO. Sorry about the rant.

Look in your valve covers, if there is a lot of gunk and build up, I would not run synthethic, because it may loosen everyhting up and clog your oiling system, If it looks clean, run it. You can run it in your trans, TC and diffs. I run sythethic in my equipment. The advantages are better mileage, better flow, less break down of the oil, and you can extend your oil changes, saving money and it is better for the enviornment, less waste oil.

Add up the cost of changing your oil & filters every 3 - 5 k and then add up the cost to run a sythethic for 25k with a filter change in between. Then you can make a decision on what is more cost effective.

    From Novak's website:
I'm assuming this applies to all transmissions this age.

Otherwise I run it in the engine with no problems. I've seen the lack of wear it leads too. ;)

I run Amsoil full synthetic in my XJ and YJ. I started running Amsoil when the YJ had about 90K miles on it and I started running it in the XJ when it had about 80K on it. Both now have over 110K and I don't have any problems with leaks or anything. I also run Amsoil full synthetic in my diffs. as well as Amsoil oil filters in both Jeeps and an Amsoil performance air filter in the XJ.

I swtich everything to Syn. Runs great.

Royal Purple in pumpkins and tranfercase and tranmission.
    Mobile one 10w-30.

After playing/driving around I checked the pumpks and transfer case and they seem cooler.

When I switched, I had to replace all the seals for the yokes (missed spelled, too early for me to spell).

Guess I shoulda been more specific. Don't go to your FLAPS and buy Mobile1 synthetic and put it in the transmission and tfer case.

Specialized synthetic like the Redline MTR and Royal Purple are appropriate as noted above.

There is no such thing as waste oil in this day and age unless you put it in the garbage. All the oil drained from your vehicle goes right back into it or someone elses within a year or less. I also don't use synthetic unless it is called for, only because it cost more and the benefits over time aren't enough to justify its cost.(my opinion)
My truck has had its oil changed every 4-5000 miles and has over 160k on it, never had synthetic in it. My Jeep had 166k on it when it was rebuilt, transfercase and all were rebuilt, still use standard gear oil with lucas additive. It will probably outlast me.
