Would Dana 44s off of a 79 Wagoneer fit my 79 CJ5? There are some being sold locally for $150 that I could use for my axle rebuild this winter.

They are wider than the CJ axles by 4" (5"? I'd have to look them up). It's a common swap - IIRC Dan Stewart (DanStew) has some under his CJ. I think the usual practice is to outboard the front springs so that they line up with the axle pads - not sure how the rears are handled. Usually they have cruising gears, typically 3.31s for a Waggy of that vintage, or maybe 3.54s if it has the towing package.
