I just received a new plastic gas tank for my 75. The original steele tank had a couple of mounting holes and a bracket that allowed the tank to be bolted to the Jeep. The replacement is plastic and doesn't have such mounting brackets. What is going to hold the new tank in place?

I just bought a new polyu tank for mine and it came with a metal strap to reuse the factory mounting studs. If you want i can measure the dimensions of the strap I was sent if you are going to fab one up.

I can order the strap - can't work on it until next weekend anyway - any other advice you could offer? I'm also a bit concerned about the top of the tank hitting the floorboard and damaging the sending unit, etc. Does the strap limit up and down travel?

If you have the skid plate, that will hold it in place. From '72-75 the skid plate was optional, so those tanks had to be attached to the frame. The '76 and later Jeeps used the skid plate to hold in the tank. Check Boyink's description of the tank installation.

    Thanks Tim....

Again, my major concern is that if I use the skid plate to hold the tank in place, what protects the top of the tank (sending unit, vent hose, etc) from damage?
