First off I know somewhere on here there is a break down (image/scan/something) of a 72-75 clutch. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Second, is it possible for a clutch to slip more while in 4WD off-road than it would while 2WD on road?

    Thanks guys.

Clutch linkage? Clutch cover and plate? There's a '72 manual at www.c104.net but the linkage changed to bellcrank style in '73.

I was thinking the plate might be slipping. I'd like to have a diagram to go by so I could disassemble and take a look. Would I have to drop the tranny or can I squeeze it out? Also, if I do have to take the transmission out is there a basic "how to" somewhere on how to remove it? I've never had to remove a tranny or engine before and am not even sure what I'd need or where to begin. Thanks.

Tranny has to come out. It's really pretty simple. Take out the crossmember, driveshafts, shifters, linkages, etc. Put a jack under the back of the engine to hold it up. Unbolt tranny/tcase from bellhousing and remove it. Keep it level while you do this so you don't bend the tranny input shaft, slide it straight back. A helper is usually necessary. Depending on your setup, you might just be able to manhandle it out. I've had improved success holding it up with a floor jack and rolling it back on the jack. Be careful it doesn't fall off the jack onto you or the helper. Unbolt the bellhousing from the engine. Now you can see everything. Unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel. The clutch disk will fall out. Since you've got it down this far, replace everything while you're in there, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch disk, and pressure plate. Have the flywheel resurfaced also. It sounds terrible, but it really isn't bad, just very time consuming. Crawl under the Jeep and take a good look. You'll see how it all comes apart.
