Thanks for all the information, and I am still trying to get aquainted with posting on the forum so please bear with me. My Jeep had all the smog apparatus removed, and I broke off a bolt where one of the exhaust tubes comes out, and since the headers are rusty, I thought I would buy a new set with out the holes. If that is not available, I'll just plug the holes for now and worry about hooking things up again if the laws change. Any ideas on where to buy OEM exhaust manifolds? Also, any ideas on how to get the rusted nuts off without twisting the studs? Thanks.

I'm restoring a '73, too! I like PB Blaster, and once well, well sprayed let it set for a bit. Light taps on the stud and nut will sometimes help loosen rust. Real rusted stuff sometimes responds to alternately tightening and loosening. Finally, heat. MAPP gas is pretty small and easy to handle, $20 at Home Depot. If all else fails, my little die grinder can carefully cut the nut in half. The trick of course is to have steady hand and not get your stud threads.

Check out the thread on page 5 or 6 'Any tips or tricks on removing rusty bolts'. I asked the same question last week.

Just a little warning about removing the rusted bolts from the emissions ports. I broke the heads off most of mine and tried using a "easy out" tool to extract the rest of the bolt. I used lots and lots of penetrant, some heat, and obviously a little too much muscle because the manifold cracked and broke a small piece off close to the threads for the bolt.

Needless to say, I had to buy another manifold.

If you're buying for the driver side, be aware that there are multiple styles of manifold and you want the one in the bottom shown in this pic on this thread.

There's a place called 1A Auto that sells new manifolds. Check them out at: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/ExhaustManifolds/Jeep/CJ5 Btw, I think the same place sells them on ebay as well.

I'd be REAL careful about using an easy out on those bolts in the cast manifolds. IMHO, it's too easy to crack the manifold because the bolts aren't thick enough for the easy out to grip. Also, be careful about heat. If you apply too much, you'll weaken the metal and could potentially crack the manifold when trying to remove the broken bolt.
