I see that herm the overdrive guy has rebuilt clutches for the 225 @$140.00.Has anyone tried these? Also will rebuild the T86 for$90.00 and parts. What to do I've had my Commando sitting for two years-family medical problems and a samurai that called my name-so I'm really wanting to get back on track.A friend at work wants my t86 and will trade a sm420 for it but then I need to get an adapter and both need a rebuild. Not to mention drive lines ect...decisions,decisions!!

Nothing wrong with Herm's parts, but $140 seems expensive for a rebuilt clutch. You can look at RockAuto.com and find the cover and disk, rebuilt, for $36 each. You should be able to find these parts from a local rebuilder for a similar price or less.

If you are really short of cash, you can just replace the disk and reuse the cover, depending on its condition. Most people go with a new, premium clutch kit because the labor involved in replacing a clutch is significant. However, if you're short of cash and this is a hobby car that will only see a few thousand miles a year, reusing the cover or using rebuilt parts might make sense. Be sure to use a new throwout bearing though.

I'm actually more concerned about the reliability issue then the cash.Had priced a set up from Napa at more $$"s and wasn't to sure it would be new either.Guess I'm still kind of fishing around-only want to do this once.Okay maybe twice if I put in a 420 .Seems like some have not been completely satisfied with the premium ones as well.

Certain that a kit you buy at Napa will be new unless they tell you it's rebuilt. Ask them. Napa parts are a little more, but uniformly good quality.

Napa should be able to get rebuilt parts too.

On a side note, how do you know the sm420 needs rebuilt. If it has had a good life and the oil changed regularly these things are dang near indestructible. I have picked up 5 of these in the last year only 2 of them needed rebuilt the others would be fine to put in a jeep as they were.
The t86 like most of the factory 3 speeds is not a very tough transmission, they will work but most fail or need rebuilt often under heavy use. I agree on the clutch, NAPA usually has good parts. I paid $110 to have my clutch rebuilt and got a new throw out bearing, pilot bushing and pilot tool.

Sorry for the delay answering Mcruff. The current owner says that it needs new bearings-about 200.00$ he says. I have another one however the first gear is rusted so bad that I think I would need to replace it-pitted badly in one section. At any rate I'm getting ahead of myself till I do the clutch.
