Hey guys, Bought my wife a '77 (because my '59 doesn't go fast enough for her). P O has swapped an '82 or so wide track front axle in and I don't know wether to cut the shock mount off the tube and turn the spring plate mount back around to use the new shock for a 77 which I have, or go buy a shock for an 82 which would be shorter? and leave the spring plate stud for a sway bar? Which I don't have. Make any sense?

looks like you'll have to redrill the u-bolt plate and weld up the old holes if you turn it around. anyway, i say go with the longer shock.

I would use the wrangler shock mount as it gets the shock up out of the way of the terrain. You could always fab up a new upper shock mount to use the longer shocks. I guess the ford truck shock towers are cheap and fix that problem right up... at least that is what I have read, again, no first hand experiance. On mine (same swap) I cut the mount off and used the spring pad mount. Then one of the first runs caught the spring pad mount on a rock and bent the crap out of it.

Thanks for the tips. Still not sure but I'll prolly just cut the axle mounts off and use what I have. Going to check on the ford brackets first though.

You can on the rears, but the front are definitly right and left because of the one larger U bolt.

I'll have to look at the hole sizes, but if I have to I can grab a set off my parts jeep! It's also a '77 and it's plates are oriented correctly.

While I'm on here can anyone tell me where to pick up vacume for a power brake booster on a 304. That's another upgrade the PO had almost done. Thanks

any manifold vac. source can be used. iirc, there is a big port behind the carb on the fac. intake. it might be pluged or necked down. i'll look for a pic. might help better.

Pretty sure there should be a big fitting on the top of the manifold with an approximately 3/8" diameter tap for power brakes. Some 2100 carbs have a big port on the back of the carburetor, but I think that's for PCV. A parts manual would show it, or go to your local bone yard and look at a Wagoneer.

    Thanks all
Stupid me forgot we got an extra 304 with this jeep and it had the 3/8 vacume barb on it. Just swapped it for the plugged one on this motor.
