Buy a warn overdrive and keep the low gears for the trail.

The steering and brakes would be the first upgrade I would look at myself. Since the drivetrain is swapped out maybe the axles have also?
Does this rig still have the D25 and D41?

It may not be the cheapest but since originality is not important a later model axle swap might get you the both the brakes and higher gears.

A shop called Woodys in Washington are going to switch front and rear ends to a newer model jeep, and put in a auto trans with the transfer in the back for a more quieter ride, It has power steering now
Thanks for the help guys http://songramp.com/benkrahne
