I have had a column shift t-90 from a 65 cj5a kicking around the shop for a few years, and I'm now going to use it.

I noticed that it had a metal tag on it with a jeep part number. It was the part number for the t-90 column shift trans per the part manual.

It also had the number AST90-L on the tag.

I have never seen a part number tag on one of these transmissions. Has anyone seen a metal tag on a t-90?

I was wondering if it may have been a factory spare rebuild transmission. The oil inside looks good, and there appears to be no wear and tear on the trans. It has the normal jeep rust on the case, but little or no grease.

I would expect all the Borg-Warner transmissions to have left the factory with a tag. Usually there's a Jeep PN (likely 9xxxxx in that era, or maybe 535xxxx), a type designator (ie T-90A) and some B-W numbers.
