I've taken my first step. A jeep has been givin to me. A 1980 CJ5 (see details in the intro forum)
Now it gets intresting. First off I have to get new tires. 235 75 15 all terrains. I'm on the search as we speak. The ones on the rig right now look like new, as they've never seen pavement , but are severly dry rotted and need to go. The left front is flat due to the sidewall blowing out.
Next is a battery and to see why it gets sucked down overnight. Also the PO tells me it dosen't seem to be charging. Related problem I wonder?
With luck a new Alternator will solve both problems.
That'll get it rolling. Maybe I'll have to go for a trail ride on the farm before I bring it home:)
BUt then it's on to bracing the frame in the bad spots, patching up the big holes on the body, and installing a new gas tank.
BUt my biggest catch is going to be coming up with the lost title so I can register it. That may get tricky.
Of course the most important thing is to get some pictures so I can post 'em up here! Hey man, priorities!
Just thought I'd post this to give all of you a status report on my project, so you know where I'm at

Sounds like you got a plan! I'd also recommend going through the electrical, fuel and brake systems, just for the warm fuzzy feeling you'll get from knowing their conditions. Never know what you might find. New fuel filters, hoses, clamps, brake fluid, check all connections and grounds, etc.

Good advice Rondog. Thanks. I will be replacing the fuel lines and filter when I do the tank. I'm hoping to not have to replace everything, but I'll be sure to give it all a good inspection, and replace anything suspicious
