I'm currently talking with some that has a 1970 model commando ,his ad states that it has a 258 engine with 3 speed trans.Does anyone know if this would be an engine for 1970 model commando?I thought it should have a V6.He also said it was a factory convertible(he does not have a hard top full or half.) Any help is appreciated, new member. THANX

i think he is mistaken. for a 70 model it should be a 225 V6. There is not enoguh room for a straight 6 in theay year. unless it is cobbled together from a later frame and a CJ front clip.

Like Dan says, it won't be a 258 unless somebody stuffed it in there  . Hard enough to get a V8 in these things without a little :smash: .
As far as whether it's a true convertible or just a roadster ask him what the first four numbers of the VIN are. It it's a true vert it will be 8702. 8701 would make it a 69 or earlier which is also a convertable but is the continental model.

Previous posters are right - there's no room for a 258 under the hood of a '70 Jeepster Commando without cutting the firewall. It could also be a '72 or '72 Commando with a '70 title. The 72-3 model offered the 258. Title swapping is more common than you might imagine.

If it's a 72-3 with a title swap, you won't be able to determine convertible v. roadster from the VIN. (A roadster basically has no top, but you can add a soft top. The true convertible had a factory fold-down top, like a convertible passenger car).
