    Hey guys,
I'm getting ready to redo the brakes on my 73 CJ5 this weekend.

I'm going to replace the shoes, cylinders, hardware, master cylinder, and new fluid. The brakes are old and bone dry.

    2 Questions:

    1) Should I / do I need to replace the proportioning valve?

    2) In the CJ Rebuilders manual by Ludel he mentions that some later CJs require a Metering valve tool to effectively bleed the brakes (J-26869).
Do you know if that is needed on a 73 CJ5, if so can I still get one from Jeep?

    Thanks

Not sure on the metering valve tool, but what I learned last couple weeks is if it won't bleed, the metering valve has "popped". Just need to push in or hold the pin on the metering valve so the fluid will pass thru it. C-clamp should work if you need it. Didn't have any problem on my 68, but then I've never really messed with the amc stuff to know what they had.

    hth.

Oh, as far as the prop valve, hows it look? bunch of corosion around it or is it clean looking? If it looks coroded, I'd replace it if you can find one.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
Looking at the diagram it just looked light a flat peice of metal.
I'm sure it just holds down the metering valve, like you said, a C-Clamp or the like should work just fine.
    Thanks termin8ed.:)
