hello. I recently posted about my 225 (T14-1 3 speed) and how I'm trying to fit the headers on it. Well, the clutch linkage is definitly in the way on the drivers side. The pipes hit the clutch linkage that is bolted to the frame. A fellow jeeper told me that a lot of people switch to hydraulic clutches. Can anyone help me out with what parts I should get and what else I should do? Thanks a lot

I used a Wilwood slave cylinder and Master Cylinder http://www.wilwood.com/ They only listed one slave cylinder when I bought mine. If you use their parts, get a MC with at least a 3/4" bore. I had to fab a bracket for the slave cylinder to mount to the tranny. It is a "pull back" type. That is, it pulls back instead of pushing on the clutch fork. There is a pic of it in this thread: http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26956 Wilwood products can be had from Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/ and many other suppliers.

I used a kit from Novak, I think the slave was from a Toyota Landcrusier, along with a Master for a late 90s Wrangler, 3/4" bore.

Posimoto - Did you have to reinforce the firewall for the master cylinder or simply drill holes and bolt it on?

If possible, can you post a pic of the master at the firewall and of the push-rod at the pedal? I will be in the process of adapting a hydraulic setup from a '86 to a '75 very soon. I already have a '84 SR4 bellhousing which I used for my T18a adaptation so the slave cylinder should bolt right up.

The '72 originally came with a cable clutch. This is not like the short cable on earlier Jeeps - it is a long, flexible cable with a sheath. Since the cable was troublesome, Jeep provided a bellcrank kit that was essentially the parts from a '73 CJ-5. There was a service bulletin for the bellcrank kit.

One option would be to put your Jeep back to the original cable clutch setup. The modern cables may be less troublesome. There was also a reference to using a cable from a late model mustang here lately - I'll search and see if I can find it.

Take a look here for original clutch cable info: http://www.c104.net/manual/Section_05.pdf

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm probably going to wait a while till I get a different set up. I just got the jeep together and I just want to drive it
