Anyone know where I can find a new dash for my '56? My dash is a mess of holes, mysterious switches and buttons that are no longer wired. I can find dashes for the '76 and later but nothing for the early stuff.
    Anyone?

They're pretty easy to make from 18 ga. sheet metal. Just take measurements. I think the width is 59-1/8". Height is about 9" (I think). Get a sheet metal shop to cut it and bend it about 1/4" on the top and the two sides, and at least 1" on the bottom. If necessary take your old dash to the sheet metal shop...tell them you want a blank dash the same size as your old one.

Use your old dash and remove the steering brace from it. Notch the new dash for the brace and pop rivet the bracket to it from the back side. Cut out your old glove compartment and cut a new hole for the GC and attach the glove compartment to the new dash from the backside with pop rivets. All you're really doing here is getting the flanges that the box actually mounts to. In the picture you can see that I really didn't do a good job..hence the "ugly glove compartment" title. But if I had it to do over again, I'd know what to do.

Layout the 6 or 8 7/16" dia. holes along the top and sides for the attachment bolts, drill them and slap it in place. Then you can customize the layout of your guage holes to however you like.

    Here's mine.

In the third pic you can see where I notched the dash panel for the steering column and the bracket that I took off my old dash.
