Wondering if anyone has experience removing a PTO from an F134? I have a line on the cover plate needed and wondering if there are any tips/tricks to taking it off.

    Thanks

Should be 5 bolts holding it on. Remove those, and it should come right out. No biggie

If the PTO is for a winch it will be only slightly more complicated.

First there are 5 pipe plugs in the rear of the housing. Remove them

Secondly there are 5 screws that can be accessed through the holes in the rear of the PTO housing. They are allen head screws, so you'll need a long allen wrench to get them out.

    Pretty easy.

You ought to have a gasket that goes between your plate and the transfer case. They can be made or bought at any 4wd mail order house.

I had to take the handle off mine to get it come out, but that was only 4 screws. Other than that very strait forward

Yes, lots and lots. Lift vehicle slightly in the rear so no oil drips from tranefercase. If it's just a rear facing only pto and doesn't have a propellar shaft attached to a rear pto, remove the 4 screws from the shifter but leave it in place. Remove the bolts holding it to the transfercase but remember it could be filled w/ oil so do not tilt it. Sometimes it sticks, shift the shifter handle and many times that will loosen it. When loose remove the shifter and take it out. That's it. Pull the gasket off and bolt a cover, which you will need to find, on the transfercase.
That's it. If you have a propellar shaft attached to the pto remove it first. I have more instructions if you have to remove the rear pto and companion flange.

Re: Anyone Ever Removed a PTO?

It's a front only PTO and has a drive shaft going forward to the winch. Is it possible to pull the drive shaft first so I can take the wich off until I can get my hands on the PTO cover?

Yes loosen the allen bolt on the rearmost yoke and then dismantle the rest of the driveline, what you going to do with the removed stuff?

I'm looking at selling the entire PTO to finance other work on the Jeep. I have no use for the winch for what I'm going to use the Jeep for so it's going on the block.

Put a post in the want to buy area. Probably get a better responce. What model/make are the winch and PTO? Surely someone here would be interested in it.

OK, my PTO is removed and the cover is in place. However....the winch is giving me fits. I have all the bolts removed but can't get the drive shaft to disengage from the winch. All it had was a bolt through it so I figured it would pop right off....NOT. I can spin the shaft and the male end on the winch will stay put. It doesn't look keyed, threaded or anything like that. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

not sure about a front pto dshaft but the one going to the rear pto box on 2a did have a key way on it. Made for a heck of a time to get it off. If I remember right I had to use a pry bar and a lot of cuss words to get it to come off.
