Intake Manifold

I have a 73 258 with the stock single barrel carb and am looking for a 2 barrel set up. Have found several on E-Bay but not of the same vintage. What years of the 258 used the same style intake, ie bolt and runner pattern? I'm not worried about emission stuff, i can block off what I don't need. I'm just curious what years are interchangeable. Any help would be appreciated.

Pete, you want the 2V intake and exhaust from a '81 or newer 258. In '81 Jeep abandoned the "siamesed" manifolds for separate aluminum intake and cast iron exhaust. The preheater is electric after '81 - no more heat riser flap.

All the pre-81 manifolds will bolt together AFAIK, ie you can use your old exhaust and a newer 2V manifold of pre-81 design and they will bolt together.

All the 258 manifolds (and 232 after 1970) are interchangeable in terms of bolting to the head. You may have some slight interference with your PS bracket (if present) if you use an 81-on exhaust. I have a pair of manifolds from an '85 CJ on my truck, and I had to notch the PS bracket - otherwise it was a bolt-up job. Be sure to get the accelerator cable linkage with the manifolds - it will be different post 80.

 

Thanks. That's what I needed to know. The DJ5-CJ5 project is slowly coming together. More work than I originally thought, but that's always the case.
