I Have been trying to start my jeep for months now the compresion s still great but this mess started when i put in the new distributer that they make for the 4-134 engines now iit wont start and i have had many people tell me that you feel for a lot of presure or you look for valve positioning. and people tell me have an F head and others say its a
L head but it have a valve cover so i belive it is a L head has anyone converted to a new distributer i live at 8,000 feet i have spark and pleanty of fuel

remove the center high volt wire between the coil and the dist cap so you can nudge the engine to TDC (or turn it by hand).
    ignition switch to OFF.
turn the engine so the timing mark on the balance wheel on the front of the engine is at 0* (tdc)

remove the dist. cap and note which pole the rotor is pointing to.
that will be the #1 cyl plug wire. then follow the firing order from there.

replace the coil to cap wire
    give it a try
this assumes that the intake and the exhaust valves on #1 are both closed. if they aren't you'll be 180* off in which case the #1 pole is the one opposite to the one you were using.
