I was trying to free up the rails before mounting the tower and I think I went too far with the rail with the smaller fork. In the rail hole w/o the popits or caps, it looks like an 1/8 "thingy" moved into the rail hole from the center. Just a nub is showing so I can't slide the rail back. It seems to be stuck or won't move even when I push with a screw driver or rod. What is it and what do I do? I can't find anything in the manual about it, they just show the popits on the other end.

    Thanks in advance.

I've never had need to tear one down
here's a parts blow up diagram
from the diagram, it appears a small cap/plug can be removed for access to the pill
it's not under spring pressure, I wonder if you can tilt the tower and tap to release the pill

I agree with Jim, a tap in the right direction should set the pill back to center. If not, maybe squirt some brake cleaner in there to loosen up the goo holding it in place? You NEED to have it in there between the rails.

    Thanks for the replys.

I think your right, It's stuck with ~1/8 showing but after I posted the question it stuck out a little more. I'll pour some stuff into the hole to loosen it. I wonder why it's there if not under spring pressure?

It's been sitting since Oct. and since we've had a week of rain and looking at another week, I might as well get back into the groove and start assembling the Jeep again.

Thad, I like the way you supported your engine in the frame w/o the Xmember. I used 2 jackstands but they were always in the way.

Ummm- you don't have the other larger, rail still in it's hole do you? If it is & it moved at all then the interconnect pill can't shift back until the notch in the larger shift rail is aligned with it. That's what it's there for, to only allow one rail to move when the other is in the "neutral" position.

    Howard,

Thanks very much for the explanation. I can see through the haze now :D. That's why I couldn't shove it back. I'm glad I walked away instead of beating on it ;) .

    Thanks,
