I searched the forum and could not find an answer, so I'll post the query here and hope someone might respond.
On a 65 cj5 with the emergency brake being on the back end of the t-case, should there be a return spring on the operating lever? (I'm referring to the lever/long arm that is on the ouside of the assembly, to which the emergency brake cable itself attaches to) It appears that there is a spare hole on the clevis in which a spring might hook to it to hold it off? Cant see anywhere on the frame where the other end might attach to so I am wondering...
Also, cant find any info in the FSM.
The cable itself is frozen, so I'm needing a replacement. Any suppliers?

    Thanks

    Here you go-

PN for the spring is 641727, do a Google on it, all sorts of suppliers list it.

Brake cable is PN 906750 for a three speed tranny or 911693 if you have the four speed. (if anybody knows why there's a difference I'd love to hear it :? )

The link is 640680, can't find a source for these but I supect a short length of welding rod & a few minutes with a pair of pliers would produce a reasonable facsimilie :).

FYI on Tonka the spring was run from the arm & hooked onto a hat channel.

    Have Fun:)

Yep, good photo. I'm in need of #17 in the photo if anyone has a spare.

Don't give up on the frozen cable. Remove it and lube it & she'll be as good as new. If not, yes Krage (jeepdoc.com) has a proper replacement. Rotsa Ruck.

Howard, the 4 speed is a longer transmission so I'd assume the cable would be longer too. :hurrican:

Once again my questions have been answered. I'd like to thank everybody who responded to this and all my previous questions. Without this site, I think my task of getting my CJ5 back to pristine condition would have been much much more difficult. I'd also like to thank the sponsors for getting this started and regulating it.
My hat's off to you guys. Keep up the good work.

The welding rod idea will work just fine. There's a hole in the crossmember for the extension. I don't remember the length you need to make it, but it's just a straight peice of rod bent at both ends ends. Mine had been replaced w/ baling wire (Grandfather's fixall). My suggestion and what I'm going to do is use a stainless radio antenna salvaged from some old heap.:v6:

Go to a local weld shop or welding supply place, get a piece of stainless TIG wire. It's 36" long, straight as an arrow. Comes in diameters like 1/16, 3/32, 1/8". Hopefully you can find someone to give you one piece.
