For those who have venting windshield frames. What do you do for your wiper blades?

Secondly... has anyone heard of a pilot bushing (or bearing) with rollers of some type... for a old CJ 5.
A friend of mine told me to get one with rollers instead of just brass.
What's the advantage of such a thing if it exists? I've searched google and haven't found it for a CJ 5 yet.

    Thanks in advance:?

I couldn't imagine what a pilot bushing with bearings looks like. The thing is so small...course it's possible I guess.

This is what they look like. Obviously, needle bearings are better than just a metal to metal bushing. They last LOTS longer and don't mess up the end of the tranny input shaft. Summit Racing has lots of them, but I don't know where you'd get one for the F4. Maybe take your old bushing out and measure it and see if something cross references.

If the input shaft on your transmission was not desgned for one (roller bearing bushing) don't mess with it. It will only chew up the tip.
Some shaft tips were not designed to have bearings rolling on them. My SouthBend lathe is 64 years old and doesn't have the 1st bearing in the spindle, it rides on Polished iron. Iron and oil-lite bronze are great materials and designed for just that purpose. The sm420 and sm465 do not use bearings in the internals of the transmission, they ride on centered iron sleeves.

:iagree: A shaft designed to turn in a brass or bronze bushing will likely be soft, whereas a shaft designed for roller bearings will be case-hardened and ground. Putting a soft shaft into a needle bearing is asking for big trouble. JMHO.

OK! I'll take your advice on the pilot bushing and go with brass or whatever the original is. Thanks! I would have gone the other way at first!

How about the wiper blades for the venting windshield... Rondog, I think you have one of those don't you?

According to the parts manual the venting windshield uses the same blade as the regular WS.

I bought the regular Wiper blades for it last time and had to cut them down to fit... they were too long. They would hit the frame... If I remember right they had to be about 7 inches.

Hmmm, I double checked, definately the same part refenced for both, 689750, but no size is listed. They do list different numbers for the arms though- what are you using for wipers, are they the original vacumes or are they aftermarket electric units? Could be you have the wrong sized arms.

I've got a venting WS for Tonka & I'll probably be running into the same problem, whatever it is.

    Howard,
I'm using aftermarket electrics X 2. Maybe the wrong arms.:(
    I'll investigate tonight.

I really hate taking a cutter to a brand new part... that's why I'm asking.
