I've been lookin' for some coil over shocks for a '69 CJ5. Thought they might give my leafs a little help, but I have not found any for that early a jeep. Do they make them? Does anyone have a source? :?

The shocks are so close to the frame that as far as I know coil over shocks won't fit. Besides, coil over shocks arent' really the best choice. Spring work is the way to go.

    :iagree:

If you do decide to go with the shocks, try a set of "booster" shocks for an early 70's fullsize Chevy wagon or sedan. The "helper" shocks are a coil-over design, but they are only supposed to help with heavy loads.

Thanks Glenn. I just replaced the original five leaf rear springs with some repro five leaf springs. The old springs were in rough shape and she was sittin' low with them as well. The new springs seemed to work until I bolted on a spare, two full jerry cans and a gear box. Any suggestions - add a leaf (have not found an early CJ part for that either) or scrap the whole five leaf set up?

I am trying to keep it as orignal in appearance and ride height as possible.

In your situation I think I'd get a leaf added.

Coil over shocks put all their load on the shock mounting stud which I've seen break.
