I have headers and side pipes (mufflers). I really like the sound and I was surprised that they were as quiet as they are. This is the way I purchased the CJ. Will I regret the exhaust coming out in front of the rear tires? Are there any disadvantages to this configuration, hard on the tires, engine performance, noise etc? Thanks for your comments

Noise, fumes. Plus you'll smash them pretty easily if you get into big rocks. My preference is for stock rear exit, the quieter the better - FWIW.

I regret lifting my Jeep to the point that I have trouble getting in because my sidepipes don't give me many options for steps :)

    Hey Mongo,
I just read your sig, What about Jesse off Extreme 4X4? She's pretty hot, and she can weld.

Totally off the subject I know.

One advantage is if you ever do smash them up, you can just order another set. You don't need to go to a shop and have it done.

Disadvantage would be the noise factor and fumes if you are idling around. I think they look cool, but I have mine straight out the back.

I agree with your comment on the side steps. It is rather difficult to get in without them. The price we pay to have a cool look.:)

Is that a TV show? I never watch much TV anyway, but, lately, I haven't had time. I have either been at the office or working on my Jeep to get it on the road.

Yeah it was Herman from the Munsters. That is how I look when I go Jeeping or work on it, can't decide which. :)

I have the same sidepipes on my cj. I didn't put any hangers on the mufflers. It is all supported by the header bolts. I have had them for about a year or so and haven't seen any ill effects but I suspect after enough bouncing around somethings going to fatigue. Any ideas?

My Jeep muffler has a hanger and rubber strap attached to the seat bracket mounting bolt. Seems to work, what's the chance that they lined up? Because the previous owner used newer seat brackets which do not work means I will be reworking the brackets. Then the question is will I still be able to do the same thing with the new brackets? If not the hole is there I will most likely just reuse it.

I can see your concern. That's good they have held up for you. :)

Yikes. Seems like that's gonna break eventually. There are muffler straps like Mavericks, but with clamps, so it's all bolt on. You should be able to find them at any auto parts store. Cheap insurance. That's how I have mine supported.

I agree with MPC, my mufflers just happen to come with the bracket. I have purchased bolt on hangers and clamps like you mentioned for other cars. If the header is the only thing holding the muffler that's a great deal of leverage when it gets to the end! A NAPA search online pulled up many options. :)
