    Hey guys,

How difficult would it be to install a 4.0 fuel injection on a 258. I would use the head and weld the correct water jackets shut and use the intake, computer, and wiring harness. How would you make the crank position sensor work or would you need to????

Just thinking out loud here, but I really would like to do this

    Thanks

Yeah, you can do it. There's a kit available from Hesco that is the "Mopar MPI kit", that's essentially the 4.0L system. It has some changes to make it easier to install on a 258, including an external electric fuel pump, and a front-mounted CPS. You can instead cut a notch in your stock 258 bell and put the 4.0L CPS there, in its stock location. You'll need a 4.0L flywheel if you use the rear-mounted CPS. The front-mounted CPS setup is available by itself from Hesco, but it's ca $250 IIRC.

    How about the distributor??

I have an HEI on there now. Do I need to swap that out and use the one from the EFI 4.0??

Not as far as I know. I'd suggest you go to the Hesco site and read the instructions for the Mopar kit http://jeepers.biz/shop.asp?action=details&inventoryID=43025&catId=7577 That will give you some background for the swap. hth!

<edit> Well, I thought the kit had the CPS on the damper, but it looks like they use a special distributor instead. Maybe this is a newer kit than I recall... If the 4.0L does not use a distributor with a CPS, then I expect you can use the HEI distributor.

There's a forum about putting the 4.0L into CJs, somebody here will know where it is.
