Okay, before I start this, let me say that once I stared at it for about half an hour this evening, it doesn't look as bad as I was swooning about earlier today. I still don't like it, but I suppose I can live with it for awhile....at least until I figure something else out. Anyway, some pics, as promised (dial-up beware, they are kinda big)

These first 2 pictures show the jacked-up look I was talking about earlier. The 3rd picture show how it used to sit with the stock springs. It had different tires then, but you can see that it was that bad.

This picture shows how far forward the front end looks now.

This picture is showing (kinda) the steering clearances with the new springs. Nothing rubs, but if the front springs are compressed at all, I think it might.

And finally, here is an exploded view of the origional shackles....this was the only one that was not welded on

This is the new shackle that replaced it:

I dislike how it sits. Ride is better. Look is worse.

Now that I've calmed down some ;) What would you guys, if this was your Jeep, do or have done different to begin with? Here is the lift that I ordered.

    Looks good to me too!

I'd look at some aftermarket shackels though.

ditto... looks like you were sitting little rear low before you put the springs on... and mine looked about the same way, it's starting to come into line after about a year or so

I like it too. Give it some miles and the rear will come down.

Like was said your old springs were probably so worn out that this is just a new look that you aren't used to.

Well jeese...if I didn't know better, you guys like how it looks... :)
    R)

I'm going to take it somewhere and have some better/newer shackles slapped on. That might even it out some.

Looks much better. A little taller shackle on the front should level it out.
You will gain about 1/2" of lift for every 1" additional shackle length.

    Looks good :D

FWIW putting shackles on is a real simple job, no sense in paying someone to do it for ya.

I would have to agree with what everyone else is saying. If anything, it was sagging in the rear before, it looks pretty level to me now...

    It looks good!!
Like I said you got all anal and worried about nothin.;) I would replace the shackles and get rid of the C style but other than that its fine. The springs aren't gonna hit the tie rod, simply because the axle is setting on the spring and when it collapses the axle and steering rod will move also.

Keep in mind they may have moved the front axle forward a tad to help clear bigger tires. Typicly when bigger tires are put on they will rub the inner fender towards the rear when turned to full lock. However I don't know if your 1" of lift would allow you to put tires on that are large enough to do that. I know my old rancho 2.5" lift would allow 33s to rub slightly. I kinda like the frontends moved forward a tad, but thats just me.:)

There is a wrangler running around here and they must have put the springs on backwards because it looks like the tire has moved backwards. Just looks goofy. Definately not right.

I think the jeep looks good! As others have said, "let it settle a bit".

It looks fine Dondo. Replace the shackles and let it wear in.

I am about to put the 2.5 superlifts on my 3a. I thought superlift even recommended replacing the C shackle with the later version. I think the Jeep looks great. I really like the solid aluminum wheels.

Superlift does reccomend using the plate style shackles. I read somewhere that Superlift springs do settle out. Looks good to me.

Well Dondo, the verdict is in.... :) and I'm in full agreement.
It looks great as is! That bit of height in the back is normal and it will settle over time.
Go for some quality H shackles for now I'd get all 4 the same size. In 6 months or so, then consider if you need to be slightly longer on one end or the other... I'm betting you wont.

It's pretty normal for the tie rod to be really close to the leaf spring pack. It shouldn't be a problem in normal use, even in moderate offroading. In some more severe offroading circumstances, you could bend a tie rod due to spring compression... I've done it on my D27... but that was an unusual circumstance; you shouldn't be concerned about it unless you plan on encountering alot of rocks.

A quick look in the Quadratec catalog shows a 1/2" lift shackle for ECJ5s, p/n 16052.10X, $79.95/pair. Price seems high, I think I paid only about $40/pair for ConFerrs... but that was some years ago, and I'm not sure ConFerr is still in business....(good shackles if you can get them... check Ebay)
