Some of you guys have seen the shackle-lean problem I have on my passneger's side (front and back), only. Well it's getting worse every time I take the CJ7 out on the trails. It's so bad, now, that my NEW bushings are totally shot and the lean has reached the point that it's unsafe to drive. The driver's side shackles are still plumb, no change in them at all!?!?!

I've tried to determine the cause(s). But nothing obvious has shown up. The spring/shackle perches are all solid and don't appear to be bent. The axle mounts are good. I've put different springs on the back, without any change in the lean angle. I can't find any cracks in the cross member and frame welds. The body sits relatively consistent on the frame. And no frame torque is visibly noticible.

    HELP...got any ideas?

Are your Ubolts tight??? Maybe, and just maybe, the frame rail is twisted some. Tne mount will look good, but possibly the whole frame rail will be cocked a bit, pssoibly because of rust weekening letting it twist.

All of the parts appear original, except for the newer back replacement springs. But like I said earlier, changing the springs didn't change anything. I too have considered the frame twist idea. It is't rusted. But, I'm told by the previous owner, that an earlier owner used the Jeep as a "serious" trail rig. There
s a good chance that the jeep has been abused more than I thought. I might should take it to a good frame shop and get them to check it out.

From looking at your pics in the webshots thing, I'd almost ask if the spring eyes were bad (elongated, twisted, etc...). The shackles look good; I would have assumed these to be the culprit, but the pics look good. Have you had any mechanics look at it for a guess? A frame shop or good body man may have a better clue. :?

Great Pose Brad..."HA, HA...It is to laugh! [ In my best Daffy Duck impression ]

I haven't paid anyone to check it out, yet. But, I gotta feeling that's going to happen, soon. I just hope the fix won't be too expensive. Diane is already noticing the money I'm putting into a Jeep that was supposed to be completely road worthy. Actually it probably was, when I got it. But the Big "T" will bring out the worse in any vehicle.

Before paying anyone, take a tape measure and a buddy...... measure the square of your frame. The ladder frame design can be broken up into square areas and both measurements in an X pattern across front to rear should be the same. Perhaps the tub or front clip have shifted or your frame is cracked in an upper quadrant that is hard to see. The X measurement will show u your area of a anomolie regarding any frame issues. Make sure to use the exact same locations each time front to rear and each side! Good luck! Gunner
