OK, so the jeep is a '65 Tux with a V-6 Dauntless motor.
    Are all Dauntless' 225's?
When I go to the auto parts store what do I ask for .
Went to get some wires/plugs (getting a little at a time for the trial start-up.......some day) and the guy was cross referencing it with a Buick Wildcat. Now my big bro had one of those and it had a big V-8.
Did the Wildcats offer the Dauntless? Or maybe a oddfire Buick V-6.

Anyway I guess what I need to know is what is the best way for me to get the right parts?
The motor isn't stock to the jeep and I'm not sure what was swapped out and what wasn't.

The picture of the cap he showed me didn't look right.........shouldn't it have 8 knobs with 2 blanked off? The cap on it now looks like a regular cap, in and out.

I could go on and on...........

Yes. If it's a V6, I forgot and apparently it's caused some stir, the Buick 350 used for a couple years in the FSJs was refered to also as a Dauntless but a Dauntless V8.

Jeep 225 V6 works for me.

Don't think so, the V6 was only used in the smaller cars AFAIK.

Check the casting #. Long as it's a 225 Jeep 225 parts should work.

That's an even fire cap. Check the casting number to be sure you don't have a later Even Fire 231 in the Jeep.

Yeah but that was Jeep name, Buick never used the Dauntless name AFAIK. It was a 350 too.

yep our second wagoneer had the v8 dauntless in it. first car i ever drove. (well except for that little incident in the driveway and the clutch ("so THAT's what that pedal's for...) with our first wagoneer (brown with the straight 6 in it) but we don't talk about the much.... R) )

i always spec for a 1967 to 70 jeep cj5 225 v6. usually gets me what i need. sometimes you need to guide the counter person a little until they get used to your needs but then not too many people around here, mid iowa, work on ecj's anymore.

unfortunately the 69 seems to be skipped in most parts listings for some reason ("aka the lost year" i guess.) but the only other engine i mention is for the 231 buick oddfire 1975 and 76 regal or skylark.

Just tell 'em you have a 1966 Jeep CJ-5 w/ the 225 V6. That way it'll show up on their computers. :)

Best bet is to do like me and tell them to get out of the way so you can look up what you need. I do that in all the local parts stores around here because I can look up the parts myself a lot easier than I can explain to them what I am looking for.

    X2, I've never had any problems. I just said I use '71 CJ-5 w/ a V6 since that's what I have. :)

:? The "Dauntless V6" was so named by Kaiser, not Buick and was used before the Buick 350 was used in the FSJs I thought. The original V6 was a Fireball, but after that it was just a Buick V6 until Kaiser bought the castings. Got it's name from the Dauntless 350? That engine wasn't used for the first time until 1969 by the link you and I both provided. The V6 had been used in the CJ line for a couple years before that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've never seen a BUICK V6, not a Buick Designed Kaiser V6, refered to as a "Dauntless". Only Kaiser Jeep V6s carried that name, kinda like Tornado, Hurricane, Lightening, Super Hurricane, etc.

To that end I don't see what this has to do with the discussion at hand. My point originally was that Buick did not use the V6 in a full size car when the question was asked about cross referencing with a V8. Sure internals, covers, etc might be the same. BUT! If you're buying parts for a V6 why cross reference with a V8 when there's a V6 that's the correct application to look up parts for.

    From the original post:

"Went to get some wires/plugs (getting a little at a time for the trial start-up.......some day) and the guy was cross referencing it with a Buick Wildcat."

    Hence the Dauntless V8 reference.
