Has anyone swapped out the lowback seats for a highback seat and still managed to retain access to the tool box? I am thinking that if I set up a hinge to let the seat fall backwards, it will work, but I have to figure out how to keep the seat from falling backwards while I am driving. The idea is to put in highbacks to make it safer, not to let passengers split their heads while falling.

I thought the way the early Scouts, like the '63, had their under seat access was pretty cool. The driver's side had a hinged set up like the passenger side of a Jeep except only the bottom of the seat swung forward, the back rest didn't move. They had enough room to clear the steering wheel when the rear of the seat went up and forward.

With my Bostroms I could open the toolbox lid, but I had to prop the seat up. Better access by lifting the seat out, of course.

Last night, I was dead tired (today, too, but now I am a distributor and a brake switch bracket away from finishng that durn Jeep), so didn't think... if I put the hinge the other way, the rear fenderwell would stop the seat from moving, so it is no good. I will check out bostroms and also look at just removing the seat

I have highbacks on mine but rather than having the hinges on the back i have them in the front. all i have to do is prop the seat up and i've got access.

i am like the pickin'n'jeepin but with one "must" step before popping the seat up. I have to recline the seat all the way back so that the headrest doesn't hit the window on the way up...i think it will work better moving forward than back...i can take a picture if you need...

I have just put in new seats. Had quite a bit of hassle getting the brackets to fit right, wanted to keep access to my toolbox, but in the end gave up and now ive just took the hinge off the toolbox and if i need to get in i just slide off the lid and use it like that, maybe not perfect but only gonna have equipment in that i dont need to use often!

Nice setup. Did you mount those to the the original seat brackets? What seats did you use?

Took the original brackets and had copies made but lowered the passenger side front bar so both seats are the same hight, made the rest a bit lower as well because my head was a bit close to the rollbar :) . Took a few alterations to get it just right, so im glad i kept the old ones intact or i would have been seatless for a while. Seats are ECO universals.
