Well after pulling the transmission to check for an oil soaked clutch disk I found it to be dry as a bone. I then saw that the D18 mount was starting to separate so I replaced that as well thinking that it was the cause of the reverse chatter I was getting. Even after all that I am still getting chatter.

New motor mounts 6 mos. ago
New transmission mount 6 mos. ago
    New D18 mount
    Resurfaced flywheel

Any opinions on what to check next?

I was having a simular problem with Tonk, every once & a while it would start slipping. I figured there was oil getting in there but when I tore it apart it was dry :? The only thing that I can think of is the pressure plate, figure it may not be pressing the disk to the flywhell hard e'nuff, I didn't adjust it after the last time I replaced the disk:oops: Have you inspected & adjusted yours per the FSM?

Dunno Joe. Mine has that short cable from the x member to the tranny bolt on the DS that I always had heard was a factory fix for clutch chatter in reverse..... I don't have any clutch chatter.....
'Course, the tranny is out of the jeep now, so I have NO clutch chatter..

My understanding is that if the springs on the clutch disc are weak or broken that will cause chatter. Not saying it's the only cause of course, just another cause.

Forgot to add that I put a new clutch disk, pilot bushing, and TO bearing in as well. I rigged up a turnbuckle from the lower drivers transmission bolt to the crossmember and it seems to help. I'll road test it tomorrow and give an update.

The only other thing I could think of is too tall of gearing maybe? (T14, 33's, 3.73's)
