Anyone have experence with a Ramsey PTO winch that appears to turn the wrong direction?
If we put the Fairlead on top of the bumper the winch rotates the oppisite of the transmission.
    Any ideas?

    Turn it arround j/k

maybe it was meant to go on the rear of the vehicle? Would that make a difference?

Or maybe it was meant to actually turn around and be run from a different t-case...heck I don't know.

we have tried running the cable all the way out and letting it reverse on the spool but it did not seem to help.

How is it setup now? Cable winding in from bottom? I'm assuming the pto has forward/reverse? Cable in/out?

So when your trans is in 1st the winch cable is feeding out? Sounds like you need to rewrap it to pull in on 1st gear reguardless of whether it's feeding in off the top or bottom and reposition your fairlead, just my $.02

If the spool is turning in one direction winding from top or bottom has to make a difference.

That doesn't make sense. If you engage the pto and the line is feeding out and you grab the end of the line and walk away from the jeep as the line's feeding out, then when it gets to the end, it will start rolling it back onto the spool....can't prevent that....

    Or am I misunderstanding you.

Maybe it's like a backlash on a fishing reel, with no load on the cable is the cable pinched/kinked down into the wrap below it and this causes the cable to continue to wrap instead of continuing to feed out.. Put a load on the cable and pull while it is feeding out to remove kink, how many feet of cable are out when it does this?

My ramsey pto driveline come from under driver seat up to driver side of jeep. My winch spools from the top and 1st 2nd and 3rd gear are winding in and reverse is letting line out. It is stock set up so should be the right way. Good luck

I think Ramsey may have made winches with different worm gear drives, depending on the application. Yours may not be for a Jeep with D18 t/case. My Ramsey winds in from the top of the winch in first thru third and plays out in reverse.

Could be your's was originally for some other application. I can get the model number on my winch this weekend if you want.

In the mean time, put 'er in reverse and wind up the old 4 banger.
    Good luck.
