Since I have after market wheels and lug nuts, I need the size & thread type of the stock ones, please.
I could take one off & figure it out but figured I'd try here first.
    1970 CJ5. TIA

Hmmm, I checked jeepdoc, they usually have fairly accurate stock parts, but 70 appears to be a change year for the rear studs... If yours is early in 70 year like mine (built in feb) I would go with the 69 stuff. If its latter in the year, you might want to go with the 70 stuff. If you really want to be sure, drag a lug nut to a hardware store and see what size bolt threads through ;) I am fairly certain the stock lenght is 1 and 3/4 though. This is something I've been starting to look into since I'm only running 4 lug nuts on each tire...

Edit: patrick can type faster apperantly

'70 might have a different length on the rear due to the flanged axle....
either way they are 1/2" diameter studs with 20 threads per inch...

What year did they do away with the left-hand/right-hand thread setup?

left-hand/right-hand setup? apparently before mine since I'm not sure what it is... And after braking three studs I fairly certain they're stock

Edit: no I didn't break them because I was twisting the wrong way...

weird... I didn't realize they ever did that. But I guess it makes sense in an engineering standpoint. You don't want the rotational force of the tires to give you a free tire rotation... :D

Or you just want to confuse young people 50 years from nowR) BTW my 60 no longer has left hand studs, I decided it was not worth it for me to forget I have to turn them the wrong way.

My '56 has lefties on the left side. Wasn't that fairly common on older cars? Guess they used to have a problem with nuts unscrewing.

Thanks to all for the replies - mine is an Early 70's model - seemed to have been built in Aug or Sept of 69 - so I'm going with 1/2 inch 20 thread/inch
