My '71 had a little barrel-shaped thing with a plunger on one end and a spade connector on the other, mounted on the manifold. IIRC when power was on, the plunger retracted; cut power, the plunger came out, pushed against a tab on the throttle shaft to assure that the throttle plates closed fully.

It wasn't connected when I got the Jeep, so I removed it... not sure where it might be now... anyway I do get run on sometimes when my engine is hot. I can usually time my releasing the clutch and applying the brake to assure it doesn't do it... but sometimes it happens anyway

this is all great info! thanks.

i actually found a vacuum leak in my heater control hose. i cut the hose off and re-attached. it seems to have lessened the problem. immediately.

i picked up a length of new hose today and will replace the whole thing as well as replace the other vacuum hoses. they were all pretty crusty anyway. infact the heater control was from a 70 or 71 dj i found and i just used those same hoses.
