I have a 63 CJ5. It has the F-134 motor in it. Recently I had starter issues and discovered the top bolt that holds the starter on was missing! This caused all the teeth to shear off of the starter. I had the starter rebuilt, but am still lacking the important top bolt. I do not know what size bolt, fine or coarse thread, length, anything about it. I think it is a 3/4", but I do not know. If the threads are damaged, can I driil it out and re-tap? I am obviously not a mechanic, so any help would be apreciated.

Strictly from memory (been a LOOOONG time since I removed the starter on a 134) I would guestimate it as about a 3/8" or 7/16" course thread, probably 1.5" long. Bolts are cheap as heck from Tractor Supply or any good hardware store - go in and buy several, chances are you'll get the right one.

I'm also sure that one of the Fhead guys will chime in with the exact right answer.
