Tried both. Cleaned the carb. tried again. lubricated the ball, no avail...it's in there. The jeep was stalling on slopes. I'd have to blip the throttle to keep it from dying. Is my carb body shot? I don' have any other ideas. The carb had a relatively recent kit by the PO so it should've been running tops. The dude that put the kit in said that the ball was stuck when he installed the kit and he left it. Otherwise the carb is in good shape......I hate to have to chuck it!

I had the same problem. i gave up adn had to just trade it in for a remu one. Done everything you have tried, no worky. I think the most drastic thing to do is drill into the side, and then you can punch it out, but you will hav to epoxy the hole, and hopefully you will not drill into another passage.

I did the same, couldn't get it out and finally used it as the core on a remanufactured unit.

Maybe the same trick I've heard of to remove broken car keys from a lock ... connect a battery through a welding rod and the body of the carb. Touch the rod to the ball and they are welded together. Use the rod to withdraw the ball (Seems kind of hazardous to me though). Either that or heat up your oven to full broil (ca 500F), put the carb body in and see if that loosens the ball. A few heat/cool cycles might loosen it.

    Reese you're a genius!

Tim Reese, you are a genius.......I just tried the oven trick. 7 min @ 500 and banged the carb body on my kitchen cutting board. Out popped the check ball! So I'm back in business!:)

Now, I'm concerned about the proper size check ball. I have a replacement in the NAPA kit i've got. I appears to be the same as the one that was stuck. Is it the correct one?

Also I was reading in the old posts and found a link to the GM sheets for the 2G.....apparently some 2G's with the plunger type accel. pump didn't have check balls.....What gives?

I really want a carb with Balls! HEHEHE!

get rid of that junk carb. I replaced my rochester with a 350 holley and it takes an adapter to mount to the intake, but it is the best thing i have done. I can't believe the increase in response.

You now have a Holley, thats all that needs saying. You'll be back when that thing needs tuning all the time, not to mention eats expensive parts like there going out of style. Holleys are great when they work, but let them mess up and you'll cus it like a junkyard dawg.

nothing at all in the world wrong with the 2gc, or 2gv. the old ball was probably stuck from corrosion or varnish in the passageway that it was in. I would clean it out until it is spotless (the way the carb should be anyway) and then drop it in. It should go all the way to the bottom and come out again very easily. If it doesn't come back out well you know how to get it out again. You should be able to look inside the small passage that it goes into and see a concave seat if it is supposed to be there.
