I think I've read everything on this "engine stay cable". I'm sorry, but I'm lost. I have a "57 CJ5. I pulled the trans. case and tranny and bell housing. On the left side of the bell housing I have a small round hole. Is the cable just attached to the bell housing to the frame? What about the throughout level inside the bell housing? Does one thing have anything else to do with another? Could someone explain it to me please? Also, is this the same as the clutch control cable? What is an engine wrap? Is this engine stay cable and bracket required? I've done research on it, but I'm just not getting the answers I'm looking for. One more, what is swedged?

    Loads of thanks. -G

Mine does that when I let off the gas... I took the cable off, after that is when I noticed it... I think I am going to re-install the cable now and see if it goes away.

I also wonder if that is why my clutch linkage came apart in a high-torque scenario a month or so ago...

Does anyone know how tight this cable/rod should be?

My 71 never had one on it. I wonder if what trans. you have is what determines if they came with one or not. Mine is the T14

Just snug up the cable decently. It keeps the engine and tranny from moving foward in the event of a head on collision or severe hard stopping. The motor and tranny are rubber mounted and could possibly shear. I think the design was added to the wwII jeeps after they discovered a problem during their rigorous and abusive testing for the military. I do not think the prototypes had the engine stay cable.
