My 225 has a pretty good tap to it right now, it runs great except for that annoying noise. I know that on some engines you can adjust the lifters-? I think to quiet up the tapping. It is definitly the top end of the motor I hear it from both valve covers. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it the right way? thanks

    Hydraulic lifters = self adjusting.

What MOP suggested. Otherwise just get used to it. ;)

I can vouch for Marvel Mystery Oil. It quieted down a noisy lifter in my 258 almost immediately.

This may sound dumb, but the only time my engine ever taps is when it's low on oil. Sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones we overlook. Hope I didn't insult you.

Mine gets louder as the oil level drops but it never goes away even when full.

Yeah, I just totally went through the whole engine compartment with new hoses, filters, belt, tune up, everything that could be replaced basically. I added a bottle of Lucas with the oil change and it is still there. Replacing the lifters with hydraulic ones will eliminate it or it has hydraulic ones now?
Wont leaving it like this cause problems down the road?

Sounds like a worn cam lobe. The only way you'll really be able to get it quiet is to replace cam and lifters. I don't think you can do any more damage to it, but I could be wrong...

Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking of doing a cam at some point, any suggestions? I had good luck with Crower before in my 258. I will put some Marvel in and see what happens for right now and once I'm through inspection I'll go with the cam and lifters. I am pretty confident it is not a rod knock, it's definitly coming from around the valve cover on both sides. thanks again

pop your covers and jiggle your top end. they might have come loose. just an idea.
also, alot of people have the comp 252H OF cam and like it. i went with the 260H which has about .450 lift (about the same as the edlebrock performer package i had on a chevy 350 and LOVED it) and rhodes lifters (which simulate smaller cam at lower rpm). hopefully, i have about a 240H at 800 or so rpm, 252H at around 2000 and 260H up around 3500. i dont have it running yet, i just finally got my oil pump in and still waiting on push rods and valve trane. then its assemble city (any volunteers??!?!) =)
just some options..but comp are very good cams, my dad swears by them.
