Gonna feel like a supercharged motor when you ge all 6 of them running. Maybe the odd pulse is also what was wearing your distributor gear.

More I think about it, #3 should fire anyway. There's something wrong in the distributor I think.

Sparky - You MUST have an OF pickup, you can use an EF module and vac (not advised), you MUST have an OF cap. You MUST point the #1 to the original #1 or another ODD post on the cap.

I have a friend who only moved the wire one post and it sounded alot like what you describe.

Wish I would have known - I was in Riley for Easter at my sisters. Could have brought you a whole unit to test and play with.

I know all that. Apparently the individual who put the HEI in the 225 did not.

Prior to Easter I wasn't fully aware of the issue. I just worked on it yesterday anyway so don't feel bad. ;)

Thanks for thinking of me though!

Yeah, debating whether to buy new or convert the housing I have now.

Prolly just convert, I have a new OF cap, coil, rotor already. R)

I have an odd-fire module you can "borrow" ;) if you like (a good spendy DUI version, the Dyna-mod), but I think you may end up wiring your MSD like mine if you do all the conversion. I could be wrong, as I don't think I can fully comprehend what all you (Oakes, PO before Oakes) have going on in that beast.

I just installed an HEI in January. It ran horrible, rough, felt like the motor wanted to turn backwards when ever I started it. I disconnected and plugged the vacumn advance. That helped make it drivable. Then I retarded the spark to 4 degrees BTC. The motor would missfire going up an incline. I reconnected the the vacaumn advance. More power and no miss firing but it still feels like it wants to go backwards when i start it and it runs rough at idle. I assume I still have a problem and I will need to go through the installation sequence again from Merle's old fire site. This certainly confusing!

when i bought my HEI and installed it the first time, i was one spike off and it ran like crap. once i got it to the right mark, it ran beautifully. plug and play mostly. i am going to tinker with the vacuum advance (or just might take it off, dunno yet), but other than that, its great.

Sparkey - If you want you can send me the parts (or I can get them) and build then verify a HEI unit for you. I have done so many of them recently that I can almost do it in my sleep. It even rarely takes more than 1 stab to get it in the engine now too :)
