I'm in the middle of installing a chevy 350 in my CJ5 and have a bit of an issue with the tie-rod to spring clearance. I've considered shims, but used the search function and read some things about the "tie-rod flip" conversion. I've got a Dana 27 front axle, will the tie-rod inserts from "goferitoffroad.com" fit the knuckles on the D27 without compromising the knuckle? Also, does anyone have a picture or diagram on how the tie-rod drag link end is situated or if i need to buy different parts? I'm kind of facing a wall and am not sure of what I can do.:? :?

    Any help is always appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Mark.

Although the inserts are "designed for a D30", they should work exactly the same on a D27. In fact I was going to do this very same thing on my 27... but then I swapped it out for a D30.

    Mark,
I had the same issue, look at picture. I just added a 1/2 shim at the spring perch, I took a flat 1/2 plate and drilled it and put a 1/2 inch long pin into it 1/4 inch which left a locating hole for the spring saddle, put it all together and had clearance. My problem arose due to the arc of the Holbrook springs I put in.

If you don't want to spend the money on the tie rod flip you probably still need the shims as most of the jeeps were on the marginal side from the factory and if you have longer than stock shackles it only made it worse.
