Quick question. Searched found nothing specific.

I took my PCV off and took it apart. I have the spring and the nozzle looking thing. Is that all there is inside there? I figured there would be a bearing of some sort in the center for restriction. As it is air can pass through both ways.

    Thanks

Kevin - I've never had one apart, but I'll give you my uneducated opinion/guess  .
From what I can see the piece in the middle acts as an orifice, which would only let a certain amount of gas through. As the pressure increases (rpm), the spring allows the orifice to move away from the seat (flat mating surface of the piece on the right) therefore opening the valve even more. I don't know if the PCV valve needs to seal completely - there shouldn't be any pressure flowing back into the crankcase. Someone else can better explain the theory of operation - my guess is it's a way to ventilate the crankcase without adding pollution to the air and helps burn any unburned fuel that slips past the rings.

See - I told you it was a guess!

    (usual disclaimer...) :)
