Need to replace the 225 V-6 in my CJ2A. Whats best? Rebuild the Buick or go hunting for a later model V-6? What will bolt up. I currently run a scattershield in front of a T-14

I am in the process of swapping in a 225. I went with the 225 over a later model 231 based on the need for external balancing on the 231. The 231 I have came out of a mid-80's Buick and used a relatively light flexplate compared to a much heavier flywheel. As a result, the 231 would have to be rebalanced.

Since the 225 is odd-fire and later models are even-fire, some parts won't transfer including the manifold and heads.

As far as bolting up goes, Novak makes adapter plates for the T-14 to GM engines/bellhousings.

Thanks George, I agree that the 225 might be a better chooice. I do not need an adapter, its a boltbup. 1971 CJ-R with V-6 had this exact combo

I have both the OF 225's and EF 231's. Personally, I like the 225's much better (unless you want to fuel inject) - has more 'feel like' power.

Both are a clean swap - just match the Flywheel to the engine.
